India's Ministry of Defence has approved the acquisition of 106 HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft as part of a wider procurement package worth approximately INR 87.22 billion, covering requirements across all three military services.

The HTT-40 is intended to modernise basic flight training for the Indian Air Force, replacing older turboprop trainers that have been in service for several decades.

Deliveries are expected to be phased over multiple years, with domestic production forming a central part of the programme's execution plan.

The approval forms part of a wider package covering requirements across all three military services.
